Day 30……100 miles completed!!!!!!
Days 28/29
Big news! I proposed to my partner last night, and she said yes!!! Absolutely buzzing, happiest moment of my life right there :DDay 27
Joined the gym with my partner today. Ran 3.25 miles on the treadmill, sweated absolute buckets!Day 26
Proudest run of the month tonight. Ran 3.6 miles uphill home after a 12 shift with a full backpack in the rain (with a dodgy knee!). I now know exactly how the hardest geezer must of felt running across Africa lol jkDay 25
3.4 miles during lunch today, stopping every mile or so to give my knee a stretch. Despite that I did my fastest 5K! Perfect weather for running, dry with a wee breeze to keep you cool. I’ve been having baths with muscle bath salts each night for the past few days, I think that’s been helping with recovery because my legs definitely feel better :)Day 23 and 24
I managed 3.4 miles yesterday and 3.5 today which fills me with confidence that I’ll finish the challenge, but it’s going to go down to the wire!Day 22
Went out for a run and got caught in a downpour of epic proportions. I like running in the rain but my knee was too sore to do much more than 2 miles. We go again tomorrowDay 21
Managed a slow and steady 5K in the rain today. This was the first run of the month that the wee voice in my head appeared telling me to stop halfway through, and let me tell you I was tempted. Before I started running my wonderful mum (Hi mum!) made a very generous donation and commented that she enjoys reading my blog, so I knew I had to ignore the voice and push on for her and all the other awesome people who have supported me so far :)Day 20
Managed 3.2 miles in the sun with my knees all strapped up. Pain was surprisingly manageable, feeling confident for the next week :)Day 19
My patella straps arrived today. Tried a short run with them on and the pain is definitely more manageable but I think to complete this challenge I am going to have to do more slower, shorter runs with a break every mile or so. You gotta do what you gotta doDay 18 - Pain
I had my slowest run by far all month but it’s also the run I’m most proud of. I have pain in both of my knees, my left one especially. I’ve ordered knee supports (arriving tomorrow) as I suspect I might have a case (or two!) of runners knee.Day 17
Ran the 4 miles to work today and also a couple of miles at lunchtime. It was hot! My knees are killing me though, I’m hoping plenty of stretching and a hot bath will help. Fingers crossed they feel better tomorrow!Day 16 - Halfway there!!
Had a rest day yesterday, we were out late on Tuesday after seeing Spirited Away (mind blowing experience) at the theatre and dinner and drinks afterwards. I spent the day with my amazing partner in London. Went to see the frameless interactive art exhibition at Marcel arch (so trippy!) and chilling out in Hyde park before heading back to Scotland.Day 14 - London pt 2
Had an amazing afternoon wandering about London. Had brunch, went to see random body parts in jars at the Huntarian museum and played some ironic arcade games at Novelty Automation. Usual London stuff. I didn’t manage a 10k, but achieved my longest run of 4.1 miles so I have to be happy with that!Day 13 - London!
Woke up at 3am to catch a flight down to London for break with my partner. After an amazing afternoon eating burgers and cycling around Hyde park I went back to the hotel for a power nap then out for a short but fast evening run. I’m hoping to manage my first 10k tomorrow, we’ll see how that goes!Day 12
Ran into work this morning. My legs are really starting to feel the miles I’ve done so far. Plus, I think I’m going fast but then I’m overtaken by a group of runners that look like they are out for a gentle jog haha.Day 11
I went to another wedding last night. I spent the whole time either at the bar or on the dance floor so I woke up today feeling a bit knackered. Still, I managed to drag myself out of bed to do a couple of miles in the scorching heat today so happy with that!Day 10 - Double Trouble
Decided to run to AND from work today. Running there was tough in this heat, but on the way back after a 6 hour shift on my feet was one of the hardest slogs of my life. Didn’t think I’d need sun tan lotion but I was wrong haha. A wee bit red in the face but up to 35 miles in 10 days so bang on schedule :)Day 9 - fastest 5K and new bag!
My amazingly supportive partner bought me a running bag. It makes all the difference when I run to work, and is the main reason I did my fasted 5k of the month and also longest distance of 3.6 miles :)Day 8
Ran to work today (3.5 miles). Slow, tough going but I didn’t stop at any point so happy with that!Day 7 - The day after the day after
Day 5 - Wedding day!
My sister is getting married today! I am beyond excited and proud :DDay 4 - May the Fourth be with you
Big day tomorrow, my beautiful wee sister is getting married! Busy day today getting prepped and travelling. Just a short run before dinner tonight, back pounding the streets early tomorrow before the wedding :)Day 3 - IT’S WEEKEND MY DUDES
Sun in shining, legs are on fire and I feel awesome :) longest run yet, starting to feel a wee bit of progressDay 2
2 miles in the glorious sun. I’m not used to weather like this in Glasgow hahaFirst run complete!
Decided to run to work today so brought all my work stuff and lunch etc in a backpack which made the run a wee bit tougher.Practice run compete :D
Why?
100 miles of running in a month for an unfit guy like me is nothing compared to what these wee heroes face each and every day. Not to mention everyone involved in working with/in the hospital, who are all humans of the highest integrity and calibre.I’m running 100 miles in May for GOSH Charity!
I’m challenging myself to run 100 miles in May to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity).
Every day brings new challenges at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH from all over the UK for life-changing treatment and care. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.
And with every mile I run, I’ll be helping GOSH Charity give seriously ill children the chance of a better future.
This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support, so please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
