Cap and top incoming… next stop March

If you have known me at various points in my life you’ll potentially know three things about me: I used to love swimming, I’m a youth worker in hospitals, and I have found a new habit of wading into rivers while complaining and calling it ‘cold water swimming’. I decided on a rogue Saturday when I saw the GOSH fundraiser that it would be about time to put those three things together.

I don’t pretend to have a deep personal connection to GOSH, however I have seen on a number of occasions how much the medical and emotional support at Great Ormond Street means to some of the young people I work with and the difference it makes in their lives and those of their families.

I am going to be swimming 8k (or more) over the course of March and attempting to hit the modest target of £250 (OR MORE!) to help fund the integral work they do week in week out. Most of my swimming will be warm, however I’m sure I will fit a cold water swim in there somewhere!

One-off contributions could make such a difference:
- £27 could fund an hour of music therapy for a child who needs extra support during their stay.
- £40 could help give parents a good night’s sleep in GOSH accommodation, while their child is in hospital.
- £58 could fund an hour’s research on a new gene editing based therapy for Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome
- £152 could fund a Play Specialist to help reduce anxiety for a child who is scared of needles for blood tests.

If you can, please help me hit my fundraising goal!

I’m swimming 8km in March for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to swim 8km this March to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I swim, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
