Hello!

My name is Ben Hardy and I have just turned 10 years old. I live in Bishop’s Stortford with my family - including my two big sisters Jessica and Alice. I was diagnosed with a rare genetic Nance Horan Syndrome at age 1 and have been coming to GOSH since I was very small. I am Severely Visually Impaired with ASD and have had eye surgeries at Moorfields and Addenbrooke’s hospitals since I was born. 

I have been very fortunate to come to the Neuro Disability Developmental Vision Clinic at GOSH and see Dr Ngozi Oluonye’s wonderful team every year. They have been brilliant! 🤩❤️🙏 I want to say a massive thank you to them and GOSH for all your amazing help for me over the years - so I want to do the GOSH swimming challenge in March 2025 and raise money to help more children like me. 

I have learned to swim through touch and voice with my brilliant swimming teacher Laura Ager. When I am in the water I don’t wear glasses or contact lenses so Laura taught me to swim by being in the water alongside me and showing me physically what to do. I love swimming and I love being in the sea and travelling the world. I believe I could definitely complete several kilometres through March and I hope to do all 8km! 💪🏊‍♂️

If you could sponsor me any money at all for my GOSH sponsored swim I would be very grateful and I will try my very best to swim as many lengths as possible!

I’m swimming 8km in March for GOSH Charity! 

I’m challenging myself to swim 8km this March to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I swim, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.
