My target 100 kms

I’m running 100km in September for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to run 100km this September to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). Please help me to achieve my goal of £250 by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.

Week Two ✅️

Run 100km in September: Week 2 Update

Second week of the @greatormondst run 100km in September challenge is officially done!

Feeling pretty good, honestly. I've built up to running 6k without stopping, which I'm proper chuffed about. The longer ones have been a bit of a killer, though—so bloody hilly!

In other news, riding my toddler's feet-to-floor ride-on toy into a wall wasn't my brightest moment. My knee isn't feeling 100%, but a rest day should hopefully sort it out before it becomes a real problem. With a trip to Legoland next weekend, I'll have to get creative with my schedule to hit the 25k target this week.

🏃‍♂️ Run: 54.92 / 100

🚶‍♂️Walked: 7.06

🏃‍♂️🚶‍♂️Combined: 61.98 / 100

We've got just 16 days left, and I'm delighted with how much has been raised so far! I've smashed the initial £150 target, just shy of £400 right now.

I know quite a few of you have already donated, so thank you again!

For those of you who haven't yet and can spare a few quid, come on, don't be tight 🤣, your support can make a difference to GOSH and the kids they care for. 👇

Week One, Done ✅️

First week of the @greatormondst run 100km in September challenge. I initially said I'd walk and run it but started better than I thought, so goal is to run it. Even had a sickness bug off my daughter wiped me out for a day so planned runs changed  but gor it done.

🏃‍♂️ Run 25.53/100

Really chuffed with how much I've raised, but still plenty of time to give us a little sponsor if you have not done already, obviously for great cause.

Pre Start update

Hi, it’s just a few days away from the start of September. I haven’t run for a couple of months, so I thought I’d better squeeze in at least one before the challenge kicks off. An hour before heading out yesterday I was yawning away and couldn’t be arsed — not a great sign! But I got out there and managed a little run.

Legs are aching today and my heart rate even hit 194, so that was a tough one! Definitely going to be a challenge, but I’m committed now. I’ll post weekly updates on my progress as I work towards the 100KM.

I realised I’m at a Butlins weekender on the last weekend of September, so I can probably write that one off for running… going to make things even more interesting!

Big thanks to everyone who’s donated so far 🙌 really appreciate the support. Would be great to get a few more donations in too for a brilliant cause:

Dale Welcome

So, I came across this GOSH challenge to "run" 100km in a month, get a nice t-shirt for your troubles, and hopefully raise a little bit. GOSH is a charity that has been a part of my family. Lucie ultimately had her heart surgery at Evelina (St Thomas’s), but we saw GOSH fetal cardiac specialists pre-birth to determine the seriousness of any heart problems detected.

I’ve been there quite a few times too, as my little brother had treatment there at a young age. It wasn't all bad—he did get to meet S Club 7 and Frank Leboeuf 🤣. I donate to GOSH monthly and have done so since 2016, as it’s a cause that's close to my heart.

So, it would be nice to raise something, but I won't pretend this is all about raising money. When I saw the challenge, I thought, 'I quite fancy the free t-shirt 🤣,' but there is no way I can do 100k. I'm a terrible runner, always been rubbish.

During COVID, I got up to running twice a week, usually a 5k and occasionally a 10k, but generally 2 x 5k. So, that's going to leave me way short. I'm nowhere near being able to do 10k; 5k would be a struggle right now. I work at home at a desk, so I'm pretty sedentary.

But the challenge says you don't have to run all of it, just move, so I've been debating in my head: Can I actually manage it?

The only way to find out is to try. I think I'm going to force Violet to walk to school in the morning—that's going to go down like a fart in a spacesuit! But that will chip away a few km if we do that the whole month. Maybe then I've got a chance.

Anyway, I've signed up, I've posted on here, so I'm accountable now! Wish me luck, and of course, if you're feeling generous, give us a few quid.

About GOSH Charity

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I run, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
