Run 100km in September 2025

My Activity Tracking

kms

My target 100 kms

I’m running 100km in September for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to run 100km this September to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity). Please help me to achieve my goal of £225 by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.

Day 26 - 26th September 2025

100.04km 👟🎉

26 days of running and I'm proud to say I genuinely didn't walk a single pace and only paused 3 times for a few seconds to tie a shoe lace or safely cross a road. It wasn't easy, but I didn't back down from the challenge. Especially as it was for such a great cause and something our little girl will directly benefit from.

Thank you so very much to all my wonderful friends and family who gave me words of encouragement and support without which I might not have made it. A massive thank you to all those who donated to Great Ormond Street Hospital charity. I am absolutely blown away with the generosity. It means so much to me and now that I understand that deep gratitude and relief of seeing those around you support you, I will certainly be first in line to donate my friends causes in future!

Together we have smashed my target of £225 and instead raised £812!! 🤯 I saw an update a few days ago from the GOSH charity to say that they'd raised over £70,000 so far!

Day 25 - 25th September 2025

GOSH are just amazing. So supportive, efficient and caring. I was reminded of this again today as unfortunately only a small part of little girl's care is via GOSH. The rest is with multiple care providers (other hospital, GP, district nurses, medications delivery company etc). I cannot fault any of the staff, who are always brilliant and the care is never in question, but the system is just a nightmare.

Today for example, I took her to see her Broomfield Hospital consultant Drs at Braintree Community Centre. This is because they no longer run that clinic from Broomfield, making a 15 min trip into a 50min round trip, meaning more time off work and more disruption to my little girl's routine.

After this, I then had to drive to Broomfield Hospital anyway to pick up her medication prescribed by the Drs we've just seen, but these only be dispensed at a Hospital, not a normal  pharmacy or health care centre and it doesn't qualify for delivery like her other medications that I have to wait at home for. This can take up to 2hrs waiting at the hospital pharmacy. Today fortunately it was quick.

We then drove to her GP because the hospital pharmacy don't provide her sharps bin (for her injections which I just collected). You can't actually order this via the GP, that has to be done via the District Nurses and then just collected there. Today, the GP had no record of my order so I had to leave empty handed and retry. While I was there I asked to dispose of my full sharps bin, but the GP doesn't do that (neither does the hospital), I have to try the pharmacy, but they typically won't take cytotoxic bins (chemo) as I've asked before.

This sort of thing is an almost weekly headache for me. It makes me appreciate the efficiency we receive via GOSH even more. Also, thank goodness our little girl is an angel 😇 and puts up with all this driving and waiting about.

On to the challenge and running:

96.93/100km!

Tomorrow will be my last run to complete this challenge (all going to plan 🤞🏻).

I would love to thank all my amazing friends, coworkers and family who have donated so far to help me raise money for GOSH charity. If you would like to donate still:

Day 24 - 24th September 2025

5.57km this evening. A personal best for distance so far 🎉

91.58/100km

Day 23 - 23rd September 2025

In the dark today
86.01/100km

Day 22 - 22nd September 2025

Feeling a bit sick this evening which made for a slow one, but equally I had a lot on my mind which spurred me on and before I knew it I was half way around my route without even realising. Brain going a million miles an hour!

82.48km/100km

Day 21 - 21st September 2025

Day 21 -21st September 2025

Got a stitch for the first time and really enjoying those shin splints 😅

Day 20 - 20th September 2025

Day 20 - 20th September 2025
My free trial of Strava ran out so I switched over to MapMyRun. After another 1.5 hour ⛸️ it was straight on to a 3.58km run. I was tired today and I have shin splints (my left leg in particular is bothersome) so the going was very slow. I am very happy though that today marks just over 75km completed. That's 3/4 of my challenge done ✅. I think this last week might be a painful push, but I'm determined to make it to 100km.

Day 19 -19th September 2025

Knackered and done!

Day 18 - 18th September 2025 Part 3

Day 18 - 18th September 2025 - Part 3

A final run today to and from my son's after school club with his bike. That makes a total of 3.61km today with this morning's runs.

My daughter passed her eye examination with flying colours 🎉 so we're very happy. She was amazing again, so very patient with the 4-5 hour round trip and was very accommodating for her tests. She was treated to a present by the lovely Drs Dave and Dr Lola today which caused a lot of excitement and has been carrying 'Green Kitty' everywhere since. It even has taken pride of place in her bed tonight - move over hop hop and teddy.

No visit is complete without a stop to the GOSH charity hub of course. So we once again enjoyed a little downtime doing some sticking and playing.

Day 18 - 18th September 2025 Part 1 and 2

Today is another GOSH day with my daughter. This time for her specialist eye examination which she has every 6-8 weeks. This is because her condition can also cause vision loss or blindness. We love her Dr who makes it all fun and games for her.

GOSH charity also contributes towards research to help improve the treatment and lives of children with rare or complex conditions.

https://www.gosh.org/what-we-do/research/

My daughter is part of two trials so far (one testing the effectiveness of a new uveitis detecting machine) and another about the family impact of medical conditions and care, both of which we hope will help will help future children and families.

As for my runs today, I'll be doing a 3 part run today. So far I've done 1.57km before the kids woke up, then 1km literal school run pushing Lily on her scooter, which leaves 1km left to complete when I get back this evening 🏃🏻‍♀️

Day 17 - 17th September 2025

Tried to out run the sunset today. I think it was a draw. I managed to set a new pace record though!

Day 16 - 16th September 2025

Thank you all so much for the donations. I can't believe we might actually make £500! That would be amazing and way more than I'd hoped for.

https://fundraise.gosh.org/s/27560/31698

Day 15 - 15th September 2025

A very windy one this evening. I also stupidly banged my ribs on Saturday and they've been giving me trouble. Today has been especially painful to bend over, pick things up, pull or even breathe deeply. A little challenging for my run today, but I'm not one to be defeated!

Day 14 - 14th September 2025

A slow, but solid 3.54km to add to the chart.

I managed to bang my ribs yesterday and I'm a little sore today, but fortunately it didn't stop me running.

Day 13 -13th September 2025

This update is a little overdue.

Since my daughter's visit to GOSH last week, she had the unfortunate (but not surprising news) that her disease is not under control. We will be adding in a new medication that I will be able to inject at home like her current one. I feel bad knowing she has to go through more injections, more blood testing etc., but we are just hoping this medication will work for her better. The compromise is increased immunocompromisation (she already is from current medications) which will mean we have to carry a medical alert card and be more cautious with infections. It gives me more drive though when running to keep me going to raise as much as I can for the charity.

So on to the running:

I had an amazing morning. Despite feeling under the weather last night and full of cold on wake up, I managed to clear up quickly and do 1.5 hour of ⛸️ and filming for my upcoming test followed by a 5.3km run along the river. My longest run yet! That's couch to 5km in just less than 2 weeks 🎉. I'm not sure what the normal method is 🤔, but this seems to have worked 😅.

Today also marks my half way point of my 100km challenge to raise money for Great Ormond Street Charity Hospital with 50.3km recorded so far. I can't say it's getting any easier. I'm not a runner. I don't particularly enjoy it and it certainly is a challenge for me. However, it's nothing compared to the challenges the children of GOSH face on a daily basis and I'm very proud to be doing my part to help both our daughter and all those other children make their journeys a little bit brighter.

Thank you again for all the support and donations. It is greatly appreciated. If you would like to know more of donate:

Day 8 - 8th September 2025

A little easier today, but still too tired to push past the 3.5km mark.

Today we found got the results of some test from Friday. Unfortunately, as suspected, our daughter is not responding as well as hoped to her medications. Soon we will be adding in a new medication, we hope will help more 🤞🏻.

Day 7 - 7th September 2025

Today was hard. My legs hurt despite pain relief and our little girl had another bad night. I found it so physically and emotionally tough to make it to the minimum 3.5km target I set myself. But, we're here and I've made it. 1 week down, 3 and a bit to go. Over 1/4 of the 100km completed 🎉

Day 6 - 6th September 2025

Day 6 - 6th September 2025

1.5 hours of ⛸️ this morning followed by a 4.81km run, all before 8:30am. My legs are TIRED and my right trainer has developed the most annoying squeak 😅, but so pleased to be still at it.

Day 5 - 5th September -2025 part 2

After running another 2.5km, I picked or boy up from his after-school club and we raced home (him on his bike). Unlike this morning, he was on 100% and I had to really sprint the last few hundred yards. He still won!

Day 5 - 5th September -2025 part 1

5th September 2025 - Part 1

I'm splitting today's running as I have less time today. This morning I did the literal school run 1.05km. I will do more this evening.

Today me and my little girl are taking another trip to GOSH. We are just about to start our journey by car, train and foot. It usually takes 2.5 hours to get there from leaving the house and arriving on the correct ward, anywhere from 1-4 hours in hospital and another 2.5 hours home. Our little girl is always a superstar, we enjoy cow spotting on the train and pressing about 15 lift buttons 😅

Day 4 - 4th September 2025

Another morning run. Today it was cats and Bats! 3.64km today.

Day 3 - 3rd September 2025

My first evening run of the challenge. Nice to have a lie in, but harder after a day's work. Our little girl was up in the night with either a bad dream or pain (she wasn't able to tell us). She did however, wake up too painful to walk out of bed with a sore toe, ankle and knee. She was much happier after some pain relief and enjoyed the rest of her day.

For my run this evening, I chanced a gap in the heavy rains and the weather kindly consented to hold off for my run today. A bit slower today as my legs were sore and the edge of the field was very slippy. Just happy to have completed it today.

Day 2 - 2nd September

A little harder this morning, but the weather held out with just a little cooling mist. Yesterday I saw foxes and geese, this morning it was cats and whole army of snails!

1st September 2025 - First Run today

My first official run for GOSH. Got out around 5:45am, just as the sun was rising. Beautiful morning and so happy to have started.

Practice runs and a massive thank you to my supporters

To date I have undertaken two practice runs. Both times I jogged 3.5km. The was a definite burn to the legs after about 3km and delayed onset muscle soreness. This morning my legs were like lead on the ice rink at my usual training session. However, I was very pleased that I was able to at least jog the whole of my practice runs and not walk at all. I don't think we can really call it running just yet, although I did sprint the last 50m on Saturday just to give it a go.

I'm a bit nervous as September 1st is just one week away now. I'm worried that my trainers will rub and cause blisters, my legs will hurt badly from the DOMS and will get worse as the days go on without a break and that I will struggle to push through he pain. Of course, that's the anxieties talking. On a more positive mindset I try to tell myself that my trainers will be fine, there's always compared and plasters, there's pain relief and cold compresses for legs and surely things will get better as the days go on, not worse as I become fitter and muscles become stronger. I think I shall choose to listen to the positive mindset. I like it better!

Finally a sincere thank you to all those who have donated and supported me so far. I haven't even started yet and I'm blown away by the fact that you have already helped me achieve my fundraising aim! Thank you so very much. I will not let you or my little girl down! I makes me even more determined to see this through.

To anyone reading this and wishing to donate still. Please do! I may have reached my aim, but every extra donation (even just £1!) will go to all those amazing things that this charity does for the children of GOSH. I am thrilled with the amount we have raised so far, but let's go even  further if we can.

Thank you all so much x

The little things

Over September I will be jogging/running 100km for Great Ormond Street Hospital charity.

This hospital provides amazing care, treatment and support for children who are suffering from life threatening or life limiting conditions, require complicated, dangerous surgeries or have rare autoimmune disease, like own little girl.

Both the staff and volunteers do so much to make the process as manageable as possible. They do so many things to try and make fun and positivity in situations that would otherwise be scary and traumatic for the children. The money raised goes towards so many things, including big things like funding research, equipment, treatments and much more. For us, it's the small things that make a massive difference while going through treatment.

Our little girl has spent many hours drawing and painting at the volunteer run art club between appointments, playing with bubbles and watching TV while having ultrasounds, receiving fun stickers for blood tests and watching staff dance to distract her, having visits from Chase from Paw Patrol (always a highlight) and playing in the Disney, music and sensory areas to unwind before a long journey home.

Government funding only goes so far and all these things would not be possible without the additional support of charity donations. If you'd like to donate to help me in my challenge or leave me a message of encouragement I would be very grateful. I don't currently run at all, so wish me luck!

About GOSH Charity

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I run, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
