James Riley

100 Push-Ups a Day in October

Why I'm doing this

My name is James Riley, sometimes known as Jay Knox and once upon a time I was a children's entertainer called Smiley Riley who actually performed at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

When I was there, a little lad with tubes coming out of his ears, mouth and nose, who was very quiet and shy come over to me before I began as I was walking around the room and trying to help get them all involved in the activities.

He was very quiet, shy and his helper was having a hard time getting him involved until my puppet Fonzo and I began to make him laugh and we posed for a sketch artist to do a funny picture of us.  That is now my profile picture.

Long story short, the little man went from the shyest person in the room to the loudest when he helped and became my magic assistant for my magic show.

Before he left he came up to me and thanked me, giving me a great big hug and telling Fonzo off for being very very silly.  I went back at least one more time to GOSH, but never saw the same children again, never seeing this little boy who went from quiet to loud, but  that is why I am doing this.

Whether it is to help pay for treatment or for an entertainer to come and take their minds of what these brave little souls go through on a daily basis, I will do my best and worst push ups for 31 days to raise as much money as I can with the target being £150.

I sometimes think that while they may not be able to save every child who comes through those doors, this not only gives them a fighting chance, but it gives them the chance to smile through their pain to fight for another day.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donations that you are able to give.

I’m doing 100 push-ups a day in October for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to do 100 push-ups a day this October to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity).

Every day brings new challenges at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH from all over the UK for life-changing treatment and care. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.

And with every push-up I do, I’ll be helping GOSH Charity give seriously ill children the chance of a better future.

This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support, so please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
