Final swim ❤️
Final swim ❤️
Today I braved the rain for my last swim. The water was at 13.2 C and although it felt very cold, it was very calm and felt almost silky. At times it even felt warm. Perhaps all the sweeter for being my last? I managed 400m and reached my target, but out of sheer pride and celebration I swam a bonus 100m. This has brought my total swim to 8.1K, and just in time as the weather is starting to change! I’m grateful for this challenge as it has motivated me to keep cold water swimming as the temperature has dropped. There is so much joy and wellbeing to be had from this practice. Thank you to all my supporters, together we have raised a nice little sum for some of those who need it most. 😊Sunset swim
Penultimate swim (I hope;))
Today the weather cleared after lunch with rain making way for glorious sunshine. I grabbed my chance and booked a late afternoon swim … which was glorious. I’m almost finished now with only 400m to go. If that is one of my last swims then this October will have done me proud!Swim 10- less than 1K to go!
500m today in very cold water at 13.5C! Now at 7.1K with only 900m to go!!!!Swim 9!
And only 1.4K to go!! I’m not gonna lie- I can’t wait to reach my goal 😂Wetsuit on!
To wetsuit or not to wetsuit?
There’s been a dramatic drop in the water temperature this week. Yesterday it had dropped from 17 last week, to just 14. I braved it on Monday in my swimming costume but it took all’s at to get warm again… So today, with a further degree drop to 13, I wore my wetsuit. I much prefer swimming in my costume as I feel less restricted, but I still have a considerable amount of meters so need to try and stay in the water as long as possible - and the wetsuit really helps with this. It was also much easier to warm up afterwards. I’ve done another 1K over the course of two days- I’ve reached 6.1K, with just 1.9K to go!! My mum came to encourage me today and took a pic of me in my wetsuit about to go in. :)Feeling nippy in a swimming costume
Swim 7; 5.1k and counting
Today was cold! In and out of the water. Admittedly warmer in the water which was an incentive to keep going. I managed 600m, but have felt it significantly harder to warm up during the day after my swim. The lifeguards at the Reservoir expect the water temperature to drop to 13C by next weekend …I braved it in my swimming costume today at 15.2, but much below 15 the wetsuit will probably have to come on!West Reservoir this weekend in the October sun
After the rain
Today, after non-stop rain for most of the day, I managed to swim 900m! The water was so calm and I had the reservoir to myself so I made the most of it. The water is still relatively warm so best to get those meters in now, before the big temperature drop expected this weekend…Sunny weekend swim
This weekend we had lovely warm temperatures and I managed to squeeze another 600m swim in. Yay!3K and £1000!
Yesterday and today were tough. The water has dropped a whole degree down to 16.4C and it was pretty cold in there! I managed 700m on both occasions, and was rewarded with some generous contributions, which have helped me to reach and exceed £1000!! I can’t believe it - thank you all so much. I’m now up to 3K, after my first week which means I’m slightly ahead of my target. So glad to be making progress while the weather is good; it’s going to bode well for the rest of the challenge.Second swim!
Really chilly and breezy this morning despite the sunshine. Managed 800m nevertheless- it was warmer in the water than outside which was a great incentive ;)First swim!
Not the brilliant sunshine I was hoping for today, but at least the ambient temperature wasn’t too chilly! I managed to swim 800m today by doing one lap of 500m plus one lap of 300m, which took me just under 30min. Just in time too, as it started to rain as I came out.Ready set go!
I’ve just bought myself a membership for the month of October at West Reservoir in North London from where I am planning on doing my swimming- outdoors and unheated.I’m swimming 8K in October for GOSH Charity!
I’m challenging myself to swim 8 kilometres this October to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH Charity).
Every day brings new challenges at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at GOSH from all over the UK for life-changing treatment and care. Every day, doctors and nurses battle the most complex illnesses, and the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs.
And with every metre I swim I’ll be helping GOSH Charity give seriously ill children the chance of a better future.
This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support, so please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
