Beyond the scrubs: A Journey of Purpose and Discovery

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a medical doctor, driven by a passion to serve my community- especially the children who couldnt find the words to express themselves. Yet, life had a different path in store for me, one I never could have imagined. I found myself at the forefront of developing vaccines and therapeutics, working behind the scenes in the clinical and commercial development of advanced therapies.

This journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. It led me to witness game-changing treatments and even cures that have the power to transform lives. When I look back at my childhood dreams and the momentary disappointment of not wearing a doctors white coat, I feel no regrets. Instead, I am filled with a deep sense of purpose and excitement for the work I do today.

The teams behind these breakthroughs are the unsung heroes- the visionaries and geniuses who are quietly changing the world. They are the real trailblazers, far cooler than any social media star. Yet, their achievements are often underappreciated, overshadowed by more celebrated professions. But here’s the truth: without their relentless dedication, the world would be a very different place.

To anyone feeling unsure about where their path is leading - trust the journey. Sometimes, life takes you somewhere even more powerful than your dreams. And if you ever need a reminder of the impact of science, just remember: without it, none of us would be where we are today.

Scientists are too often overshadowed, their achievements undervalued compared to more glamorous professions. But let’s be real- without them, you wouldnt be going anywhere unvaccinated!

Making Waves for Childhoods: 8km Swim for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity

This March, I’m taking on an extraordinary challenge, swimming 8km to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is a precious time, meant to be filled with joy, wonder, and curiosity. It’s a time to make friends, learn from mistakes, and grow into the adults we’re meant to be. But for some children, childhood is interrupted by serious illness, and their days are filled with hospital visits, treatments, and challenges most of us can’t imagine.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is dedicated to giving these children the chance to experience fuller, funner, and longer childhoods. They provide hope and healing for children from all over the UK, ensuring that even in the toughest battles, they can still dream, play, and simply be kids.

I believe that every child deserves the chance to grow up, and that’s why I’m pushing my limits in this 8km swim. With every stroke, every kilometre, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance at life and the best childhood possible.

No child should miss out on the magic of growing up, and together, we can make a difference. Please support my journey by donating whatever you can - no amount is too small. Your generosity will help bring joy, hope, and healing to the children who need it most.

Let’s make waves for a brighter future - one swim at a time.

Love,

Ponchi xx
