Run 22 - that’s a wrap!
4 miles (6k) plus the extra k’s that weren’t included as I couldn’t add point k and didn’t want to round up on each run as it felt like cheating!!Great Ormond Street hospital is a charity very close to my heart. We have been attending the hospital since 2014. Whilst it may be considered our son’s surgery was “cosmetic” it has no doubt enabled him to live his life as any “normal” child and has significantly impacted on his functionality.
Our experience at GOSH has always been extremely positive and as a family we are forever grateful to be able to access the support, care and expertise of all those working there.
At 18 month old our son had surgery which was extremely successful. Whilst staying there I popped out of the hospital one evening to get myself some dinner. There was a family group in the reception area, every one of them in tears hugging one another. I will never know if those tears were tears of joy or pain but I think of that family often and have thought about them many times whilst out on my run.
Recently I read Rob Delaney’s book, A Heart That Works. A brilliant book that will have you crying with laughter and tears. He talks about his gorgeous son Henry who sadly died of a brain tumour and how amazing the staff at GOSH were during Henry’s time in hospital.
Run 21
4 miles (6.5k). Squeezed in a quick one after work before the kids came home. Wanted to push myself and see if I can top up the miles before this challenge comes to an end tomorrow.Run 20
3 miles (5k) with Run Walk Local, our local Sunday morning community running event. Feeling good this morning. Not sure if I was fuelled with coffee and weetabix or last nights wine from a Yellow Stone party but this mornings run felt good. Turned in to a bit of a wet one but still good to get out.Run 19
5.7 miles (9.3k). It’s a mash up! Did a mixture of 3 runs today running to and from Park Run at Lakeside. The weather held out as it looked a bit threatening! Run followed by a coffee with family and my gorgeous nephews who were on the course at Park Run giving out high fives to keep us motivated.Run 19
4 miles (6.2k). On Thursdays I finish work early, I had some time before picking the kids up to sit on my arse and relax before you going to pick them up. However I decided to run today because I won’t have time tomorrow. Here is a list of all the things that go through my tiny over active mind when I’m out running giving me a whole list of reasons to either not bother or stop running:Run 18
8.6 miles (14k). Now that uni is finished I get to enjoy my days off not studying and with the nice wether I have no excuse not to make the most of the day and go for a long run. Today was never going to be a fast one, it was all about distance. My back and left leg is becoming painful so I made sure I did some stretching this morning before I set off. I had quite a few hills on this run so I did stop a couple of times for a little walk. I’m pleased with my distance today. There is no way I’d be doing as much running as this normally if I didnt have the motivation and challenge of raising money for this charity. Now, off to the coffee shop for a treat!!Run 17
4.2 miles (7k). Slightly shorter one today. Legs are feeling stiff but determined to keep going and see how many miles/km I can get done before the month is over.Run 16
7 miles (11.5k). Really, really could not be bothered to go running after worked today. Tricked myself into by saying just do 3 miles. Then, while out running my route turned 5 miles then 7. Weirdly the longer it went on for the better I felt. By the time I got home the sun has gone down. Not sure I’m ready for runs in the dark yet. Bring back summer!Run 15 - 21.09.25
3 miles (5k). Second run this morning with family at Run Walk Local.Run 14 - 21.09.25
5miles (8k). It’s been a few days since I’ve been able to run due to work and family commitments so decided to run to Havant this morning to pick the kids up. Absolutely gorgeous morning. Beautiful sunshine and nice crisp fresh air.Run 13
3 miles (5.5k). Day off today. Made sure I got a run in early doors so that I can get it done and crack on with some jobs today. I have to say I am not favouring the long runs this week so far so have been keeping the miles short. My legs are feeling it. Might have a day off tomorrow or then again might use my time before picking the kids up to hit my 100k.Run 12
3.4 miles (5k). Went out with George as he rode his bike around. No energy today, I was please to plod along.Run 11
4.4 miles (7K). Reeeeeaaaallllly didn’t want to go out today. Even put on my running stuff and went to sit back down but then stopped myself. Tried out a new route today and it was ok, not my fastest minute miles but it was ok. As I enter into week 3 of this challenge I will have 87k under my belt so I’m pretty pleased with my progress so far. This is a charity very close to my heart so every step is for a worthy cause and means a great deal.Run 10
3 miles. 5k at Hogmoor Inclosure Park Run. It was raining and cloudy when we arrived but the sun came out. Such a beautiful course. Two laps through the woods.Run 9
5 miles (8k). A nice run into Havant today to meet family for a coffee. I was not loving the hills and my hip and knee are painful but I was able to push through and tried to ignore it! Looking forward to the weekend. Happy with my progress this week.Run 8
3.8 miles (6k). Managed to dodge the rain and it ended up being a nice sunny run with a breeze. Knee still a bit sore. I have tomorrow off so hoping to get another few miles in tomorrow.Run 7
7 miles (11k) in the rain. At one point I needed to pause my run due to a heavy downpour. Thankfully my headphones are still working. My hip and knee were painful today but managed to run through it, I need to do some stretching tonight as I have the Great South Run next month and do not want to miss that. Think I may be entering into a knee brace era!!Run 6
5 miles (8k). A mixture of local running and Run Walk Local, our local community running group. Boys did 2K today too. Lovely morning for a run before an afternoon of jobs and visits from friends. Happy Sunday.Run 5
5 miles (8k). Hungover today so the run and the nice weather did me good. Felt good to get out.Run 4.
6 miles (9k). Hated it. Too windy. Sore toe. Sore ankle. Horrible hills. Reflux. Too hot. Too cold. Too sweaty! Wrong socks!Run 3
3.4 miles (5k). Managed to beat the rain but the last 2k was tough against the wind. Kids go back to school tomorrow so might venture out to some different locations for my runs on my days off. We’ve had a great summer and it’s been nice having some time off with the kids, seeing friends and family.Run 2
It’s been a busy day. My last day at Uni today after 2 years of studying. I took the opportunity to do a long run today (6 miles) 9.8k (well long for me anyway) and think about the past two years of studying to take my mind off every step.Run 1
Not a bad start. 8.2K in the bag. It’s Grayson’s birthday today so I didn’t want to be out for too long as we have lots of plans. I was allowed to go for a run if he could watch an hour of YouTube! Off for brunch now and hamster shopping this afternoon.About GOSH Charity
Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.
That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.
And with every kilometre I run, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.
Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
