Our walk today

Today, we did our 1km walk round Great Ormond Street Hospital. We wanted to show the children where we had stayed and to spend a bit of time remembering how lucky we are.

We had our lunch in the Lagoon cafe at the hospital, which is where we ate the majority of our meals during Arlo's stay as well as the place where we sat whilst Arlo was having his surgery. We visited the chapel and popped past the wards that Arlo had been on. We went past the houses we stayed in and went to the Brunswick Centre, we often went here before bed to get a little air before going to sleep.

It was a really tough and emotional trip but also very humbling and a great reminder of how thankful we are to everyone there. Whilst there, we saw a family that were in the next bed when Arlo was in intensive care, which was harrowing.

We are genuinely so thankful to GOSH and we will do our absolute best to raise as much money to help the children and families who sadly need to go to there.

The why!

Matt, the kids and I have decided to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. They saved Arlo's life and we can never thank them enough. This is just a little way of giving just a tiny bit back.

At 2 weeks old we took Arlo into NNUH as his breathing was a little funny. Initially, they thought it was just a virus, but within hours, he was put in an induced coma, intuberated and we were blue lighted to Great Ormond Street Hospital due to a heart problem. We were told that he was highly unlikely to make the journey as he was so poorly.

He was operated on the next day (his aorta had a narrowing that meant his heart was failing) and then spent nearly a week in intensive care and then further time on the wards.

However, he is a little fighter and is back home and doing amazing (fingers crossed he stays this way). We can never thank the staff at both NNUH and GOSH enough for saving his life and their amazing care. We are very thankful for our not so little family.

We are going to walk 1km each day in December as a family and would love to raise as much money as possible. Thank you for your support!

We are walking 31km in December for GOSH Charity!

We are challenging ourselves to walk 31km this December to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre we clock up, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
