Life at GOSH

Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) from all over the UK.

One of those children is four-year-old Yumna. Yumna is an outgoing and talkative child who loves dancing, singing and posing for pictures. In November 2021, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at GOSH. During her time at the hospital, she had chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy and immunotherapy. Her mum, Salma, has been by her daughter's side every step of the way.

Yumna and Salma spent one Ramadan, two Eids and two of Yuma’s birthdays at GOSH. Salma explains that they couldn’t have visitors for Eid in 2022 because Yumna was in isolation, and Salma says they were sad not to spend the festivities with Yumna’s siblings. But there were donated gifts for the children and the staff helped Salma and Yumna make an Eid Mubarak video to share with family, so they could enjoy the celebrations as much as possible.

It's been tough, but today Yumna is doing really well. Her family were recently told that she's 'cancer free' and she started nursery in September 2023.

GOSH Charity needs to raise money to support the hospital to help give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential. The charity funds research into pioneering new treatments for children, advanced medical equipment, support services for children and their families, and the essential rebuilding and refurbishment of the hospital. You can help us to provide world-class care for GOSH patients and their families. For more information visit www.gosh.org.
