The Auluck's are on the run!
To our wonderful friends and family,
It's that time of year when the Auluck family get ready to run 5k to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, a place we hold dear to our hearts. Since last year, all focus has been on raising funds for the development of the new world-leading Children's Cancer Centre. Hopefully, none of us will ever need to visit this place, but to know we have the facilities available to us should we ever need them is beyond reassuring. To live in the comfort that your child will receive the very best there is, is something you cannot put a price on.
Cancer is the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK. But a child doesn’t have to die from cancer for it to take their life. Living with cancer is different for every child. It can mean countless rounds of debilitating treatment. Not knowing when you’ll sleep in your own bed again. Missing out on parties and playdates and trips to the park. It can mean missing the moments that make up a childhood.
But we won’t let it. We won't let cancer steal childhoods. The new Cancer Centre promises to offer:
- 20% increase in capacity, giving more children the chance to access life-changing care
- New imaging technology to better reveal what's happening inside cancer cells - improving diagnostic capability and decisions
- Access to clinical trials, giving more treatment options which could be life-saving
- Digitally enhanced inpatient wards so that children can keep in contact with friends and family at a time when feeling connected and loved is so crucial to recovery
- A new hospital school (!) with access to learning and play for all ages, and accommodating for all needs - they can even bring the hospital bed in.
- A new critical care unit, with dedicated spaces for families to stay together during the most challenging time
- Improving patient outcomes with an increased focus on nutrition, physical and mental health
- A large green space and rooftop garden for children and families to escape it all.
