Raising money for kids like Cooper 🎗️

As many of you know, Gary and I faced every parent’s worst nightmare when our beautiful son Cooper was diagnosed with Wilms Tumour (a childhood kidney cancer) back in early December 2022.

After the initial diagnosis at Chelsea & Westminster hospital, responsibility for his care moved to Great Ormond Street. We spent most of the first week there on the Lion Ward with our consultant Tanzina and the doctors learning about Cooper’s cancer as best they could. and signing consent forms on things no parent should have to.  Cooper’s kidney and the tumour were removed in early February and we spent almost 10 days in hospital being looked after by the wonderful team in the Panther Ward while our wee man recovered.

Since then, he has had chemotherapy as an outpatient on the Safari Ward, and we’ve been supported by our wonderful CNS Helen and the amazing nurses. But Safari is in an older part of GOSH - it’s tired, and lacks the facilities of many of the newer wards.

Cooper finished his treatment at the end of August, and we are so proud of him. He’s absolutely smashed it all the way through. We’ll be at GOSH every 3 months for scans, and our greatest hope is that cancer never darkens our door again.

Cooper’s treatment is over, but for many children diagnosed with cancer, it’s only just starting. Or they’re facing a far longer, gruelling treatment plan with a lot of inpatient stays. Some children are facing cancers that are extremely hard to treat, and we need money to be spent on research to help them. Not to mention the fact that the current treatments given to children are old and designed for adults - the long term health implications for children are horrible to think about.

Please consider donating to GOSH to help them build the new cancer centre. It means so much to us.

Alison, Gary and Cooper xx

We’re joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids

We’re taking part in GOSH Charity’s 5k family fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, and raising funds to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Every week, around five children in the UK lose their lives to cancer. That’s five families who are faced with the worst news possible. GOSH cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers. Pioneering research is underway to find the most effective treatments and cures, which give hope to children and their families. But these advances have outstripped GOSH’s current cancer care facilities, and the hospital needs a new home to help deliver breakthrough therapies which will benefit children from all over the world.

A place designed with the needs of children at its heart. A place that will support every aspect of care, from diagnosis to remission and beyond.

The money raised from RBC Race for the Kids 2023 will help build a new world-class centre that will treat the child, not just their disease. A gateway for children to go on to better futures, where they not only survive, but flourish.

Please sponsor us to take on 5k for GOSH. Together we can build it. Together we can help beat childhood cancer.
