My Heart Warrior

My darling son Alfie was born on 29th January 2016. When he was one we took him to the doctors for a standard chest infection where they discovered a heart murmur. We were told this would be monitored and was likely nothing to worry about. In July 2018 we were told that Alfie had a condition called Sub-aortic Stenosis and would need open heart surgery.
The surgery took place in October that year at Great Ormond Street. There were many complications post surgery and it was a terrifying time for us. In essence the doctors at GOSH saved Alfie's life during that stay.

We were always told further surgery was likely so in 2021 it did not come as too much of a shock when Alfie was placed on the surgical waiting list. Covid had hit the NHS hard and so we went through 4 cancellations before Alfie was finally admitted in November 2021. He seemed to sail through surgery number 2, however an echo the day after his operation showed another narrowing, this time above the aorta that would need to be fixed immediately. They let him rest for 7 days and then on the 17th November we handed him back to the surgeons to carry out his 3rd operation.

Alfie's heart journey is far from over. He has check ups with his Consultant every 6 months and the chance of a 4th surgery is incredibly likely but we just take each day as it comes. If you are ever lucky enough to meet Alfie you would never know the scars that he holds. He is a true warrior

I’m running 100km in February for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to run 100km this February to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I run, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
