100 Push-Ups a Day in January 2025

Day 22

Back in the room... The mat is back... Return of the mat etc 🙄😏 and it shows. £46 off the big 1k. Let's do it!! X55 (yessss) x45. And the happy sounds were Royal Oris and their cover of Linger. Venus by Shocking Blue, The Tubs Round the Bend. Amyl and the Sniffers Jerkin (rude and punchy) Lola the Kinks, Roadhouse Blues the Doors and Underworld King Lizard. Then New York Ryan Adams and Last was Beck with the amazing Loser. Quite the soundtrack to this morning. Have an amazing mid week Wednesday folks 🙏❤️

2100 day 21

Back on track at the Premier Inn this morning with x50 x40 x10. A good night's sleep and some sounds ringing in my ears as opposed to questions about metaphysical poetry (it was John Donne...) Much more conducive to energised pressing up! 😬 So with the threat to Lenny Henry removed, I am delighted to say we have collectively smashed the £900 barrier today. You are amazing! I am currently responding to Daves Popeye and Big Guns challenge and it's coming along nicely, if not a little tenuous (and rock biased 🙄). This morning was the happy mix this time starting with Bachman Turner Overdrive Takin Care of Business. Followed by St German Real Blues and Big Chief by Professor Longhair and the double joy that was Don't Change and I've Got Reasons from Mary Jane Hooper. Give them all a listen and let them all put a big smile on your faces 😁

2000!!

Honestly, a little underwhelming. No music and no mat! Completely ran out of time with the early start so had to resort to completing this milestone on a towel on the floor of a Premier Inn in Leeds mid evening... Accompanied therefore by the last 5 minutes of Panorama about 3 day working weeks and then switched over for University Challenge?! Whether it was the time the venue or the soundtrack I don't know but it was a struggle through x35 x30 x30 x5... Expecting better in the morning after a good night's sleep (otherwise I will be complaining to Lenny Henry...) More fantastic donations today thank you 🙏 We are all now at £884. Incredible ❤️😁

Sunday morning day 1900

Tomorrow marks the 2000th press up! Most importantly though your donations continue to come in and we are now at £844!!! That is amazing, give yourselves a round of applause 👏👏👏👏Today two weeks on from the Nigels Garage fiasco... I managed another x50 x40 x10. It was tough and there was some amount of juddering involved. I'm already dreading a very early start tomorrow due to travel and having to complete first thing while my eyes are still shut... Anyhow, happy mix continued beginning with Red morning light by King's of Leon. Then I was accompanied by The temperance movement Midnight Black, Credit by Chuck Prophet, Nearly lost you Screaming Trees and Chaisee Longue by Wet Leg. Finished off by Nick Drakkes Hayzey Jane. Wonderful stuff. Upcoming playlist is called people who have played the Cavern 😏😉 looking forward to sharing the finished article. Have a brilliant day folks!

18th Day

Today I focused on technique. Yes there is a best way for press ups. Who knew? So as a result I managed x50 x35 x15. It was definitely tougher but it will pay off I'm sure. Sounds wise I have started a playlist named "I'm happy" That's not to say all songs are upbeat it may be, say in the case of Nick Drake, they have meaning to mr or are a little more joyful for that particular artist. I'm pleased with hour the first couple of hours of trackers are shaping up and this morning on shuffle I worked out to Lampchop Up with the people, Woman by Zac Schultz Band (best song of 2025 so far 😉) Bellbottoms Jon Spencer, High heel sneakers by Cross Section from Quadrophenia (I so wish Toyah had danced to that on Strictly) and Van the Man Precious time. Oh and Daughter by Pearl Jam snuck in too. Have a brilliant weekend team!

1700 In...

Awesome Friday everyone 😁🙏 x2 50...I will say that again. 2x50. Done. Onwards and upwards, this morning to the mighty Southern river band. Two times a fool, Pandora,. Cigarettes ain't helping me none and of course, Stan Qualen. Check that out if you want an introduction to them. It was my top track of 2024!!!!

Half Way People!!

Firstly a huge thank you to you all for your amazing support 🙏😁 £820 is way beyond expectations, you are all brilliant! Second #presupsfact4 they make you forget what day it is (see yesterday's update). Today is Thursday that makes yesterday Wednesday not Tuesday... This morning was x45 x40 x15 again but feeling hardcore ready to go to next level 💪in respect of hardcore feeling, I was today accompanied by the excellent Idles album Brutalism. My personal fave of theirs and one which takes me back to seeing them at Brixton and me injuring a couple of of ribs... A cracking night in more ways than one 😃😬 Happy Thursday and happy half way! 1600 in!!

Day 1500

So 1500 presses in and, drum roll please... We have raised over £700 so far which puts us No. 1 on the leader board 💪🙏💷 That's brilliant team and tomorrow marks the half way stage. Today was another x45 x40 x15. Looking to break the 45 barrier soon... Party mix continued, this morning was Pure Sures All Saints (love that) Dave Edmunds Girls Talk, Elo shine a little love and Marvin Gaye Got to give it up. Have a brilliant Tuesday!

Day 14

You are all amazing!! 🙏❤️ £680 raised so far and we are  No. 1 on the leader board this morning. So THANK YOU and please do share amongst your connections who may want to support GOSH please. Today I hit x45 for the first time, followed by x40 x15. Not quite halfway through and quite the improvement from the stuttering start Day 1...some nice feedback on the music selection yesterday. Do keep sharing those stories with me. I have let the playlist roll this morning. Late 70s early 80s, went like this... Joe Jackson Is She Really Going Out With Him (Look Sharp is a stellar album) Roadhouse Blues by the Doors. Because the Night Patti Smith, You Better by the WHO (their last classic song maybe..?) Stlye Council Walls Come Tumbling Down, Elvis Costello Pump it Up and Ruts Babylon is Burning. A cracking way to start Tuesday. press up facts #3 they make your arms ache... 💪 Have a brilliant day all.

Day 13 Monday... 1300 push ups in...

It shouldn't have been as good as it was all things considered. 13th, Monday, mid January... and yet today, spurred on by amazing support, it was a speaady x40 x40 x20! Also last night we watched a Netflix documentary about a billionaire trying to live forever. To be honest his breakfast looked a little bit like ours at the moment 🤔 Also spurred on by a mix which celebrated some stellar late 70s sounds. So Lonely The Police, Time for Action Secret Affair (look it up if you don't know it as its a cracker) Dreadlocks Holiday 10cc, Hong Kong Garden which is about a Chinese Restaurant, no really it has parts of the menu in the lyrics, by Siouxi Sioux and the Banshees. All began with Rainbow Since you've been Gone and rounded off by Milk and Alcohol by Dr Feelgood. Feeling energised and bouyed up for the week ahead and confident of breaking £600!!!

12th day...

Sunday and in order to avoid the political TV this week I have been playing my 80s mix. It played...Boomtown Rats Always Someone Looking at You. Sad Cafe My oh My. Martha and the Muffins Echo Beach (obs) and My Sharon a The Knack. All good stuff to support 3x40 1x20 again. Some brilliant support over the past couple of days continues to amaze me. Thanks so much we are now at just shy of £600!! Woop. Woop 🙏💷

Day 11 1100 pushes in!

Feeling amazing. You incredible lot have now surpassed £500, we are at £525 so far that's joint 3 on the leader board!! 🙏You are all awesome and in response today (Saturday) I am literally bouncing because of you. 2x40 1x20. Music matches this upbeat mood. It's a mix of mine and has so far played... Slims. Thing by Willie Dixon. Velets Underground Waiting for my Man. Erasure Sometimes. Aretha Franklin Don't play that song for me. A tribe called quest Can I kick it and Louie Louie by the kingsmen. BOOM🎸🎸🙏

Day 10

That's 1000 completed today to the cool sounds of Ezra Collective. I mean just check out Victory Dance for example! Anyhow more important, we are now number 11 on the Board having collectively raised £265. Thank you all so much. Today was also a milestone having done 3x30 1x10. So all going to plan.

Day 9

So. That's 900 in total completed. Today I managed 3x30 and, obviously, 1x10. Really chuffed. All done to the soothing sounds of drone metal heroes Sunn o))) Pyroclasts album. Not to everyones taste and without a doubt, the loudest band I have ever seen live. By some margin. Excited to receive my GOSH t-shirt and blurb today including a wall chart to show progress. Which like a small child leading up to Christmas, I will gleefully fill in like a fitness advent calendar... 🎅🎄

8th Day

4x25!!! Next challenge is 2x50 but that's going take some work I think. Anyway, in celebration of 800 press ups and 8th day, I listened to Hazel O Conner... 8th Day. A song from the 80s and my youth. Actually a bit grim, grimly prophetic, so won't be doing that again 🙄😕 Also, a bit of Allergies who are a funk dance band and well worth a listen.

Day 7

3x25 and 1x15 1x10 woop woop. Soundtrack was 80smetal! Girlschool hit and run, Motorhead cover of Twisted Sister, Shoot 'em down and Eyes of the world by Rainbow. Not a bad list I'd say! Have put some stretches into this routine as siezing up a bit but that aside, 700 press ups in, all OK. Now at £160, thanks all ❤️👋

Day 6

Firstly an apology to Nigel Garage,, or in deed, Nigel's Garage. You weren't on Laura Khunesburgh (see day 5 blog). I will leave it to you to guess who I meant but clue is, he has upset the world's richest man... DAY 6 and (drum roll please) 5x20!!! Yep now onyo to 4x25 I hope. In the meantime, #2 pressups facts, they were invented by a wrestler, Jack Revilla in 1905. Who knew..? Apparently he did 5000 Hindu push ups in front of the Queen of Scotland. What an interesting afternoon that must have been... No music today just the dulcet tones of Nick Ferrari on LBC. Back to songs tomorrow!

Day 5

That's 500 completed so far. Today weirdly was in reverse. 2x10 follow by 4x20. Hoping to make the 5x20 sometime in week 2. Also weirdly, today's soundtrack was Laura Khunesburgh interviewing Nigel Garage on Sunday politics. I need to get out more... Speaking of which, back to work in the morning and looking to break the £223 barrier!

Day 4

4x20 2x10...getting there. £150 raised so far so big push next week when I'm back at work! Today's soundtrack was a mix so it was... MCR Black Parade, Whitesnake Shut up and kiss me, Acdc Play Ball, Clutch Xray Vision a D something by Orange Goblin. Not bad I'd say. #Push up fun fact, 1, every 100 equals 30 calories burnt...

300 press ups completed... DAY 3

4x 20 followed by 2x10 accompanied by tunes by John Spencer Blues Explosion "Freedom Tower:Number Wave Party Dance 2" I know, that's quite the title. Anyhow, aching quite a bit now. To be honest, 100 presh ups a day didn't sound too daunting but at my age, it's quite the effort. Feeling all the better for it though the the goal for GOSH is the perfect light at the end of the tunnel. We are currently 30 on the leaderboard do thank you so much for the donations so far.

Day two... Twoday...

Based upon Tom's advice, I have adopted a 10x10 approach (will have to work up to 5x20 mate!) Anyway, that worked today but certainly no easier yet 😁🙄 Accompanied by Music by Amyl and the Sniffers. No joy with Strava but Helen is the official adjudicator. Thanks for all the amazing messages and support after just 48 hours team!

Day One (in a big brother voiceover)

School error... 100 push ups completed (1x30) (2x20) (2x10) then remainder grunting and groaning in 2's and 3's...BUT didn't track them 😩 Also, error number two was to attempt them after a morning gym session. Lessons learned. Onwards and upwards!!

I’m doing 100 push-ups a day in January for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to do 100 push-ups a day this January to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every push-up I do, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
