Thank you to everyone who participated in our fundraiser! It was incredible to join thousands of family this past Saturday to support GOSH and the NHS.

Your encouragement has helped Juno and Liam show amazing determination, running hard without stopping all the way to the finish line. Your backing, both in spirit and through donations, has made an enormous impact. Thanks to your contribution, GOSH has raised over £850,000 for the new cancer hospital for children, providing hope and better care for young patients and their families.

We are so grateful to be able to participate and complete the race in good health, and give back in our small way. Thank you for taking part in our journey and for your incredible generosity!

RBC Race for the Kids: Running to Give Back for the Care That Saved My Son

This year, my family and I are gearing up to join Race for the Kids to raise funds to help build the new Children's Cancer Centre at the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). This cause is rather personal to us, as it was here that Liam received life-saving care after suffering a stroke—a moment that changed our lives forever.

As any parent would know, nothing prepares you for the shock of seeing your child in a medical emergency. When Liam was suddenly and unexpectedly diagnosed with a stroke, we were terrified. His bright, playful world turned upside down in an instant, and ours with it. In those frightening, uncertain weeks that followed, the doctors and nurses at GOSH not only provided the best possible care, but also gave us the hope and strength we needed to get through the toughest time of our lives.

From the very first moment we arrived, we were in awe of the compassion, skill, and unwavering dedication of the entire team at GOSH. They carefully explained each diagnostic test they had to do and his treatment, reassured us when things felt overwhelming, and were by our side every minute. It wasn’t just the state-of-the-art equipment and medical care that made a difference—it was the empathy and care that truly brought us through. Liam’s recovery journey has been a miracle, and through it all, the staff treated him with warmth and kindness, making a traumatising experience just a little bit easier to bear.

Today, we're blessed that Liam is thriving and living his best live as a 5-year-old—a testament to the incredible work that GOSH does every single day. However, there are still many other kids and families who are battling unimaginable illnesses, including cancer, who may not be lucky enough to be treated at GOSH. So now, we want to give back.

We saw the Race for the Kids poster on the tube one day and Liam and Juno asked what it was about. After I explained it to them, they wanted to help. It’s more than just a run for us—it’s a chance to say thank you and to support a hospital that gives so much to families like ours. The funds raised go directly towards life-saving treatments, state-of-the-art equipment, and ground-breaking research that GOSH is known for, allowing them to continue their mission of helping children when they need it most.

As we lace up our running shoes and head to the starting line for the first running race the kids (and me) will do, we’ll be thinking of Liam's journey and the many other children who are still in the care of GOSH. Every step we take is for them—every mile, a reminder of the hope and healing this hospital brings to so many.
