Our Inspiration

This February, I will be taking on the incredible challenge of running 100km to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and to help raise awareness of our daughter Roxy’s condition, OEIS complex. Roxy was transferred to GOSH immediately after birth; alongside her complex diagnosis, she was born with a collapsed lung and needed urgent, specialist care. From the very beginning, the NICU at Great Ormond Street was nothing short of extraordinary. The medical team saved Roxy’s life, but they also supported us through the darkest days we’ve ever known with compassion, kindness and unwavering dedication.
Our journey was supported by far more than doctors and nurses. Physiologists, the family liaison team, music therapists, play specialists and even weekly massages helped us survive those overwhelming weeks. We couldn’t stay on the NICU itself, but for six weeks the GOSH Charity provided nearby accommodation so we could be close to Roxy day and night. They also provided meal allowances to support breastfeeding and expressing while we weren’t earning our usual salaries, daily meal vouchers for NICU parents, and weekly coffee mornings—something as simple as a strong coffee and a slice of cake meant the world during such difficult times.
Before Roxy could have her first stage repair, she developed sepsis from a life-saving line that delivered all her nutrition and medication. It was the scariest moment of our journey, but thanks to constant monitoring and the expertise of her doctors, it was caught quickly. Within a week, Roxy was strong enough to undergo major abdominal surgery and begin her OEIS recovery. Soon after, she amazed everyone by breathing independently and was moved to a specialist ward, where—thanks again to the GOSH Charity—one parent could stay with her at all times. On 21st November, Roxy was discharged home. No one expected her home for Christmas, let alone on her daddy’s birthday.
Our journey with GOSH is far from over, and Roxy will need further surgeries and hospital stays, but we know we will always be in the safest, most caring hands. That’s why we want to raise as much money as possible, so GOSH can continue to support children and families like ours for years to come. Thank you, Great Ormond Street, for giving us our incredible, happy, healthy little warrior.

I’m running 100km in February for GOSH Charity!

I’m challenging myself to run 100km this February to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity).

Childhood is special. It should be a time of joy, wonder, curiosity and fun. Of making friends, making mistakes, and growing into the adults we become. But it’s also fragile, and sometimes all too brief.

That’s why Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity raises funds to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. For the children from all over the UK who are treated by Great Ormond Street Hospital every day, for children with rare or complex illnesses everywhere, for this generation and all those to come. Because no childhood should be lost to serious illness.

And with every kilometre I run, and every pound raised, we’ll be helping to give seriously ill children the best chance and the best childhood possible.

Please help me to achieve my goal by giving whatever you can; no amount is too small to make a difference.
