I’m stepping up for seriously ill kids
Thanks for taking the time to visit our fundraising page. We’re climbing 36 floors and 896 steps up London's iconic Walkie Talkie building on Saturday 28 March 2026 to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).
Becky was diagnosed, aged 4 with systemic onset JIA and was treated at GOSH until she was 18. JIA is a rare form of juvenile arthritis that means her immune system attacks the lining of her joints and can cause painful inflammation. 10 years ago this Christmas period in 2015 she developed macrophage activation syndrome, a rare but potentially fatal complication. On New Years Eve she was rushed into GOSH via the Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS) and spent 3 days on a life support machine in ICU, followed by a month recovering on Penguin Ward (now Pelican Ward!) and a further 3 years on daily injections, medication and physio. This was a scary time for the whole family but GOSH supported us through it all. The money raised by the charity goes towards so many important causes, such as parent accommodation next door to the hospital which allowed us to stay near Becky while she was in ICU. Her JIA is now thankfully stable and she has been able to lead a normal life including studying pharmacology at university, a decision inspired by her time at GOSH! The care she received at GOSH saved her life and 10 years on we want to give back to this amazing charity and hospital. Becky and I will be climbing 896 steps up the Walkie Talkie tower in March and any donations for GOSH would be greatly appreciated.
