Dat and Olivia’s First Long Distance Run: A Journey of Miles and Smiles

As I lace up my trainers and watch my 6-year-old daughter (Olivia) do the same, I'm reminded of the extraordinary journey we are about to embark on together. For the first time, we are teaming up to participate in a sponsored 2km run. It’s not just about covering kilometres; it’s about creating unforgettable memories and making a difference.

#### The Inspiration Behind Our Run

The idea sprang from a casual weekend jog, where my daughter, with her untamable energy and curiosity, asked if she could run with me in a "big race." How could I say no? Witnessing her enthusiasm about running and eagerness to try something challenging inspired me to turn this into a reality. We decided to make our run more meaningful by supporting a cause close to our hearts—raising funds and awareness for children's health and education.

#### Training Together

Training with a 6-year-old is as challenging as it is hilarious. Our preparation involved a mix of jogging, playful sprints, and plenty of games that inadvertently improved our stamina. Watching her determination during these sessions, often pushing herself to match my pace, has been nothing short of inspiring.

We’ve also learned a lot about each other. I discovered that Olivia has an impressive resilience and a quirky sense of humour that keeps both of us entertained, no matter how tough the training gets. On the other hand, she has seen sides of me that are usually reserved for marathon tracks—focused and persistent, yet always ready with a high-five to lighten the mood.

#### The Big Day

As the day of the run approaches, the butterflies in our stomachs are real. For my daughter, the excitement mixes with a hint of nervousness about her first big race. For me, it's about ensuring she enjoys this experience, regardless of how many miles we actually cover. It’s a father-daughter day out, but on the track, surrounded by hundreds of other runners who share our enthusiasm and support our cause.

#### Why This Matters

This run symbolizes more than just physical endurance; it's about setting an example for Olivia about the importance of giving back. It’s about teaching her that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to, with the right preparation and support. Our goal to support children's health and education through this run adds an extra layer of purpose to our steps.

#### Join Us on Our Journey

We invite friends, family, and anyone inspired by our story to join us in supporting this cause. Whether by running alongside us, cheering us from the sidelines, or contributing to our fundraising efforts, your support means the world to us and to the children who will benefit from this event.

As we count down the days to our race, we are filled with anticipation and hope. We look forward to crossing the finish line, no matter how long it takes, with smiles on our faces and our hearts a little fuller. This is more than a run; it’s a milestone in our lives, and we can't wait to share it with all of you.

Stay tuned as we take on this adventure—one step, one mile, one laugh at a time.

This journey is a blend of personal challenge and philanthropy, and we are so excited to see where our feet will take us next. If our story has touched your heart, and you'd like to support our cause or join us in the run, please feel free to reach out. Every bit of encouragement counts, and together, we can make a big difference in the lives of many children. Let's make every step count!

I’m joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids

I’m taking part in GOSH Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise funds to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Cancer is the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK. But a child doesn’t have to die from cancer for it to take their life. Living with cancer is different for every child. It can mean countless rounds of debilitating treatment. Seeing your siblings through the windows of an isolation room. Not knowing when you’ll sleep in your own bed again. It can mean missing out on parties and playdates and trips to the park. It can mean missing the moments that make up a childhood.

But we won’t let it.

We won’t let cancer steal childhoods.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers. Pioneering research is underway to find the most effective treatments and cures, which give hope to children and their families.

But the rapidly changing pace of cancer medicine has outstripped GOSH’s existing cancer facilities., and the hospital needs a new home to help deliver breakthrough therapies. Somewhere that will treat the child, not just their disease.

That home will be the new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH.

The funds raised from RBC Race for the Kids will help build a world-class facility with children at its heart.

A place where children have access to play and education alongside pioneering treatments. Where families can stay together through some of the hardest moments. Where access to outdoor space is a priority, and a focus on nutrition helps fuel recovery.

Please sponsor me to take on a 2k or 5k for GOSH Charity. Together we can build it. Together we can help beat childhood cancer.
