The NHS Saved My Life!


I am running the 5km Race for the Kids to give back to the Hospital that taught me how to walk again. I was diagnosed with Juvenile Arthritis at age thirteen after having idiopathic inflammatory flare-ups in my knees and ankles, which led me to being admitted to Ealing Hospital in London. 

The condition was painful, debilitating and progressive. In Ealing Hospital, I underwent multiple emergency surgeries to save my joints and was prescribed medications to halt the disease from spreading. 

After a period of hospitalization and care received at home, I was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital. At GOSH, I was provided with intensive physio-therapy to train my body to walk again. I am now an outpatient at University College Hospital London who continue to monitor my condition as an adult. 

I am grateful to the NHS for all the care I have received throughout my life. I am glad to say that I am no longer suffering from arthritis, and I have been able to live an active and fulfilling life. 

There were times where I thought I might not be able to walk, let alone run, ever again, and participating in this 5km is a testament to the life-saving work of the doctors and nurses at the NHS. 

I would also like to thank my family and friends (especially my parents and sister) for all the care, love, and support they provided during these difficult times. 

The Race for Kids aim is to raise funds to help build the new Children's Cancer Centre at GOSH. The rapidly changing pace of cancer medicine has outstripped GOSH's existing cancer facilities, and the Hospital needs a new home to help deliver breakthrough therapies.
