Run 1

Just completed my first run! It was hard I can't lie but I done it. I can only hope that it gets easier. But I will continue to push through and work hard. Not only will I be doing 3 couch to 5k runs a week in preparation for the big day in October I will also be training at the gym both cardio and weight training. The last few days I've been intermittent fasting but also eating well. Just not got to keep focused and continue doing it.

Day 1

I am really excited to be participating in the Race for the Kids for the second time, the first being 11 years ago. I remember the atmosphere of the day, the sense of doing good, and the sheer fun I had back then.

This time around, it feels like a bigger challenge - to surpass my last performance, to raise more funds, and ultimately, because my health isn't what it used to be 11 years ago.

Great Ormond Street Hospital has always been extremely special to me, mainly because without them, I wouldn't be here.

This year has been a period of reflection for me, filled with realizations and self-reflection while looking forward. In November, I will turn 30, and because of this milestone, I want to get fitter, lose weight, and push myself out of my comfort zone. However, it is also because I recently found out that my heart condition is deteriorating, and it was GOSH that fixed it initially, helping me get this far. We always knew this decline was possible. So, my mission to get healthier needs a push, and what better way than raising money for the hospital that gave me life - the hospital that always felt like a second home, for many children like the one I was.

I run for a better childhood away from illness, I run for the child I was, the adult I am becoming, for my grandad, for my little cousin, and Maeve a brave little girl, the daughter of a family friend.

Registered and rearing to go

So I've registered, I've downloaded the couch to 5K app and I'm off to the gym after work. Got people sharing my fundraising page and I'm excited to get going

I’m joining the race to help beat childhood cancer by taking part in RBC Race for the Kids

I’m taking part in GOSH Charity’s family festival and fun run, RBC Race for the Kids, to raise funds to help build the new Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Cancer is the biggest killer of children aged one to 14 in the UK. But a child doesn’t have to die from cancer for it to take their life. Living with cancer is different for every child. It can mean countless rounds of debilitating treatment. Seeing your siblings through the windows of an isolation room. Not knowing when you’ll sleep in your own bed again. It can mean missing out on parties and playdates and trips to the park. It can mean missing the moments that make up a childhood.

But we won’t let it.

We won’t let cancer steal childhoods.

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) already cares for children with the hardest to treat cancers. Pioneering research is underway to find the most effective treatments and cures, which give hope to children and their families.

But the rapidly changing pace of cancer medicine has outstripped GOSH’s existing cancer facilities., and the hospital needs a new home to help deliver breakthrough therapies. Somewhere that will treat the child, not just their disease.

That home will be the new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH.

The funds raised from RBC Race for the Kids will help build a world-class facility with children at its heart.

A place where children have access to play and education alongside pioneering treatments. Where families can stay together through some of the hardest moments. Where access to outdoor space is a priority, and a focus on nutrition helps fuel recovery.

Please sponsor me to take on a 2k or 5k for GOSH Charity. Together we can build it. Together we can help beat childhood cancer.
